The history of the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA) dates back to 1903, when courageous workers overcame hostility, threats and violence to join together for better lives.  Since then, LIUNA has continued to expand its’ protection of workers:  In the 1920’s, the Laborer’s Union backed the African-American fight for equality; In 1931 the Davis-Bacon Act is passed through union pressure to protect wages; in the 1950’s the Union is at the forefront of training, pensions and healthcare benefits; in 1966 the Laborers Political League is established; in 1995 LIUNA launches its’ volunteer organizer program; and in 2006 LIUNA commits unprecedented resources for growth of the union.

LIUNA honors that heritage through current struggles — being heard in government, raising standards for workers and employers on the job, and reaching out to a new generation of workers yearning for a better life.

Throughout recent history, LIUNA members have been at the forefront of the construction industry – which today is an economic powerhouse of 12 million workings men and women who produce 5 percent of the gross domestic product of the U.S. and Canada.

Laborers’ Local 1174 was organized in 1937 to provide these same services to the the members in our seven county area. For the last 75 years Laborers 1174 has helped build the ever-growing communities throughout our jurisdiction, providing quality work in construction and manufacturing, and will continue to do so far into the future.  We currently have over 700 members, and provide a Health and Welfare fund as well as Pension and Annuity funds that provide working families the security they deserve. Our current office is located at 465 Allentown Drive, off of the American Parkway near Coca Cola Park in Allentown, PA.
